Prima CARE

A large historic granite textile mill building was being renovated into the central medical offices of Prima CARE when we were hired to design the public spaces of the building. Seeking a meaningful symbol to celebrate the changing use of the structure, we contracted with a local fabric artist, SAILSHADE STUDIOS, to develop a sculpture to capture the spirit of change and transcendence from the textile industry to a state-of-the-art medical center.

The historic beams were exposed and a two-story foyer was created at the entrance and mezzanine levels, and the new structure paid homage to the old at a point where every patient participated in the allegory. Subtle lighting, plaster surfaces, wood paneling, organic linoleum floors and water-based spray finishes created fun, healthy and sustainable public places.
