Created by sculptor Anastasia Azure, “Spiral Rope” is an heroic effort to use reclaimed fishing line from the New Bedford fleet to weave a sculpture that, literally, celebrates conservation, inspires ocean literacy, and ignites a spirit to act on behalf of our oceans – her beauty, her vulnerability, and her resources. Inspired by the work of MIT scientist Dr. Larry Pratt, Spiral Rope captures the spirit of ocean eddies using woven fishing line over a steel frame. studio2sustain is partnering with Anastasia to build Spiral Rope Project: a series of public sculptures, and hands-on, project-based programs and presentations for students and communities to experience ocean resources and ocean eddies in a collaborative and creative manner. Spiral Rope Project invites a global community to protect and steward the extraordinary and significant resource of our oceans.
