The art of found objects; an anchor, a stone and a bolt. Commissioned to create a setting for a family artifact by the legendary boat designer L. Francis Herreshoff, we sought to capture and celebrate an honorable New England heritage of craft, innovation, beauty and practicality. We chose the raw materials of granite and a stainless steel “J” bolt to simply and carefully display the function, power and efficiency of this Herreshoff Anchor. The setting at the end of s stone wall running along a grass path overlooking the sea celebrates movement, hierarchy and a touch of humility, fostering another generation of memories, imaginations and fables – the stuff of the sea.
