studio2sustain was asked to assist in an effort to redesign the deteriorating basketball courts within an historic Frederick Law Olmsted Buttonwood Park. Supported by the “Friends of Buttonwood Park,” New Bedford on the Move is an effort to engage youth in the appreciation of Buttonwood Park and Basketball. The new courts are being proposed within the tree-scape of historic Buttonwood Park and will be elevated slightly to create a wetland run-off garden nearby – furthering the public awareness of sustainable sites. The courts are fully integrated at the ground plane, welcoming the continuity of Olmsted’s vision of a pastoral public park accessible to all.
